Winery vacations are excellent destination based vacations to relax, enjoy beautiful surroundings, and, of course, experience a winery’s wines while getting a firsthand look at the wine making process. With so many different wineries to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to begin while planning your trip. Your first step in planning your winery vacation is to decide how long you want to travel. That will determine how far from home you can go. Even if you have only a few days, though, you can still experience a fabulous winery vacation, since there are many wineries located throughout the country.
Decide what you are looking for from your winery vacation. Are you interested in sight seeing in an area that is filled with wineries, such as California’s Napa Valley? Or are you more excited about staying at a winery that boasts its own hotel or bed and breakfast, complete with optional spa treatments and gourmet meals.
Look for special winery vacation packages that may be geared toward your specific interests. Like most vacation packages these may include your accommodations, as well as your meals, either at the hotel or bed and breakfast or perhaps a special wine lunch at a winery. Holiday weekends are popular times to travel, and there may be special packages, such as a Valentine’s Day package for two that includes a romantic couples’ massage or wine tasting.
Do you want to get your hands dirty while on vacation? Some wineries may let you see how vines are pruned, while others will let you create your own wine. You will do everything from crush grapes to bottling the finished product. Expect a set of bottles to arrive at your home!
